Welcome to Wonderland

Every play is wordplay if you choose
to use any word as pleases your muse,
and thereby let the words themselves decide
the picture that you'll paint and do abide
the logic undercut and understood
by the mad with no regard for bad or good.
Please just take my hand,
if this is all too much to understand.
Welcome, my dear, welcome to Wonderland.
The caterpillar smokes
and, as it happens, tells all the best jokes (ha ha ha ha).
And there's a cat you cannot see,
unless he wants you to. I like him; he's the most free,
especially when you've considered the queen
by whom it's always best not to be seen.
Please just take my hand,
which grows or shrinks to fit as well as planned.
Welcome, my dear, welcome to Wonderland.
Now you've seen the rabbit hole,
but still you fail to understand the rabbit's role.
And later you'll think this all a dream,
and maybe so, but the uncertainty will seem
to lie behind the Looking Glass ahead
and to await you when you go to bed.
I implore you, take my hand,
before you lose your head or wits all, and
welcome, my dear, welcome to Wonderland.
Apologies, how rude of me.
Let me tip my hat and offer up a cup of tea.
Welcome my dear. Come and join our little tea party.

What if everything in my world worked like a clock?
I know that's not how things are, but tell me why not.
Could I tick and tock my way around the world in 78 days?
Let me build my future in unpromised ways.
I'm going to glue some gears together and do what I want.
I'm going to polish the brass and oil the rubber and make a top hat look hot.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my brain.
A today that is asserts itself around me all the same.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my head.
But I'll make my tomorrows myself as I like instead.
What if the internet was just one thought away?
I know that's not how things are, but maybe some day.
Could I code by will and build a whole new world inside of my mind?
And share it with all of my friends online.
I'm going to strap in black and do my hair like I want.
I'm going to tattoo bar codes and spike my clothes and overclock my laptop.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my brain.
A today that is asserts itself around me all the same.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my head.
But I'll make my tomorrows myself as I like instead.
What if all my clothes were tricked out to the nines?
I know it's not that way but I think it could sometimes.
I'd have tassels on my coat and filigrees etched into my arms.
And every garment, every color, every charm.
I'm going to get some beads and feathers and do what I want.
I'm going to grab a pair of scissors and redesign every cut.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my brain.
A today that is asserts itself around me all the same.
A tomorrow that never was is living in my head.
But I'll make my tomorrows myself as I like instead.
